Artist Statement

My work focuses on gender identity and how we interpret various facial features as masculine or feminine. What I’ve done is taken people and digitally manipulated their facial structure to come up with a more androgynous and “genderless” human being. The goal for me, was to have people understand that their physical appearances do not dictate gender. My work is also influenced by recent scientific studies on how we can make the “perfect human” and how the prospect of designer genetics are becoming a part of this society. Additionally, my images are meant to make us all think about how we feel the need to categorize everything/one and are uncomfortable when we cannot.
